"The overthinker"
What kind of intervention can (or should) the U.S. make in Libya? Why is this situation different from other freedom struggles in the North Africa/Middle East political landscape? And what is the end-all point of doing anything in the region, Oil? Democracy? Power? Or some combination of these?
The status quo reveals the U.S. is continuing selfish interests regarding oil and power in its diplomacy in the area. President Obama continues the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, while maintaining prisons like the one at Guantanamo Bay. Our nation is still acting like an empire and our political leaders and elite cadre of rich people are continuing to plunder, steal and subdue as much power and wealth as they can get their hands on without a slight sense of regret.
Regular people like us are just making it or are attemting to stabilize our families' futures during grim times like these as we watch the overall human capacity to abuse the earth's resources most certainly lead to self-destruction. Nature will have its way and this empire, just as those that came before it, will fall. Where will we be when this happens?
I think we ought to be honest with ourselves and our children. I think we need to ensure human rights across the board and stop abuses of them anywhere. Getting rid of one tyrant like Gaddafi doesn't justify bringing in another or acting like one ourselves. How should we lead the world? By example?
