What a relief.

6 days and 5 nights. That's how long Lilica had to be hospitalized for a borderline dangerous case of Mycoplasma pneumonia (MP) (https://www.healthline.com/health/mycoplasma-pneumonia#risk-factors).

Last Tuesday, after a few days of an unbroken fever, I took Lily to see her regular neighbor doctor at the children's clinic. That doctor, "Good job!" sensei, was concerned about Lily's condition being out of the ordinary. So, she referred her to a small hospital doctor who specializes in appendicitis and other stomach and intestinal diseases as she suspected there was something wrong in that area. We taxied over there and, after a few tests that morning, we were referred again to a third doctor, this time in the big Central Hospital, Chuo Byouin in Kurashiki (https://www.kchnet.or.jp/).

Dr. Mori at the Emergency Room in Chuo Byouin ran many tests that afternoon and gave us, Lily and I, the option of either going home or of checking in to the hospital for an overnight stay. He recommended the latter, though I preferred the former option. After talking about it with Lily and calling Katsumi at work, we decided to have her stay. Actually, Lilica decided by herself that she would rather try to get better sooner under the doctor's care at the hospital. She made a very mature decision, especially for a 10-year-old.

What a journey. We are all so exhausted. My family in America and our family here in Japan were routing for, praying for and thinking of us during this challenging time. But now, all of those well-wishers' good thoughts have paid off.

Lily is home.

Thank God. Thanks to everyone for their moral support. Thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors who cared for Lilica. And now, our family unit is even stronger as we've weathered this storm on the road of growing pains. Peace.
