11 years, 38 days

It's been a long while since I first set foot on Japanese soil. One small step for Johnny, one giant leap for Johnny's future. Unless I actually stop and think about it, I wouldn't have even processed how engrossing in detail and how life-changing this journey has been.

It remains an echo in the corner keystone of my mind, this life I have made here in Japan, meeting my wife and, together with her, making our home to raise our wonderful daughter. I will always be the Mexican-American, Apache runner/poet/hopeful romantic who loves to sing, dance and express creatively the force of life that bursts from deep within my inner spring. Yusn, the Great Spirit, Jesus, Bhudda and other encarnations of the life-giving Creator make sure of that. That expression has only been amplified in dual language English and Japanese broadcast with Spanish, er, calo (Spanglish) subtitles. Tu sabes. The sound ripples across the Pacific to touch the lives of my familia and friends in America and elsewhere. Por dondesea.

I created a Twitter profile when I first arrived (@JohnnyInJapan) and that identity of me thriving in this country will never cease for as long as I live. I am forever changed, in a very good way, by the near egalitarian society that is Japanese democracy, blessed by what I envisioned could be an ideal way of living in peace and equality. Now, I know that are quite a few problems here too, some people who are conservative and close-minded, many who can't individually assert the change they want to see and the like. Yet, they pale in comparision to the true freedom one can find here, the tranquility of connecting with others, with nature and with the Earth itself and all of its cycles and seasons. Living now is completely a human concept that has been perfected by the Japanese.
