For three and a half years, Lilica has been a student at this private Buddhist kindergarten that is the second oldest in Kurashiki. When she started, it was really hard to let her go. My baby girl grew up, quickly, into a fine little girl in no small part due to the ideals and standards of Okuni kindergarten. They taught her the importance of saying and feeling "thank you." She became friends with so many other little boys and girls that she would have never had the chance to meet otherwise. I think, all in all, it was a fantastic experience for her.
What's more, my wife was able to be a full-fledged member of the PTA. There were many challenges for her, yet, many bonds of comradery-in-motherhood were made with the others that will probably carry on for years to come. I believe Katsumi was also able to widen the scope of her worldview. And she could relate her stories of day-to-day living with other like-minded mothers.
It also opened my eyes to the wider community of traditional Kurashiki families. We were all able to interact with children, their caregivers, teachers and the En-chou-sensei (Headmaster) as well. It was a great chapter in the history of our family that none of us will soon forget.
