Like many around the world, it deeply saddens me to hear that our impeccable human being Mr. Nelson Mandela has passed on to the next level of life with his ancestors. His death marks not an end to freedom and education but a beginning. Who out there hasn't been affectd by his legacy? Who out there has yet to hear of the triumph over great odds this one simple man faced and conquered?
What a role model he has been! If there is any teacher I want to emmulate, it is him. Should I be able to attain the measures of a man as he did, I would be a very content man. "Tata," which is one of the names he is known by, means "father," the same in his native language of isiXhosa and in Spanish and other languages. It proves that no matter what culture you come from, respect is always shown where RESPECT IS DUE. We honor the memory of Mr. Nelson Mandela because he selflessly sacrificed all the comforts of traditional living in order to free his fellow human kind. His personal family life suffered tremendously, yet he always showed a public smile and was sincere in his efforts to make the most of the circumstances that befell him.
I've read his autobiography and anticipate watching his subsequent movie. These both will be treasured if at least for their basic storyline: a man defies all odds of his inheritance by challenging the oppresive Aparteid regime with his fellow African National Congress comrades and others, goes to jail for his beliefs for nearly 27 years and his release and exhaltion to the South African Presidency. What a splendid model for us all. I hope to acheive greatest as he did.
