I remember an US Army NCO retiree once tell me, "Never assume anything. That just makes an ass out of u and me."
Everyone knew that the United States spies on people around the world, especially on leaders and policy makers. The trick to their black magic was that no one knew to what exent or how reciprical this espianage was in terms of infultrating domestic US communications as well. Beyond the obvious violations to the US Constitutionally-guarnteed right to protection from illegal search and seizure without reasonable cause, that is, a judge-reviewed-and-approved investigation into a suspicion of a crime commited, spying on Americans essentially creates a Big Brother state as George Orwell described in his book 1984. The Patriot Act has unleashed the fevor of unwielding power mongers in Washington, Langley or Fort Meade. Now, we as informed citizens must make them stop.

The more freedom we rob from others around the world through spying, the more we flagrantly kill innocent civilians in Pakistan, Yemen, Syria and so on with unmanned drones, the less secure we are and the more dangerous it is for an honest democracy to actually work in the world. If the government continues to relinquish these empircal powers onto the world, our credibility as a true democratic nation will disintegrate entirely. The remnants of our once model reputation we claimed are now a thousand shattered pieces of beacon glass. It will take us a long will for our generation to change this.
