One world, one future

Global Warming's Terrifying New Math http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/global-warmings-terrifying-new-math-20120719

Everything I do in this life, every resource I use and possibly waste, every promise I make to ensure a good environment for my daughter defines what kind of future she will have and what chances her children will have on our precious Mother Earth. The consequences of my actions are shared not only by our generation but by all future ones as well. Will there be a safe, clean and livable planet for the continuation of humanity to survive on? Have we single-handedly set to destroy the major source of our livelihood, namely our only available home?

Greed. A carnal human tendency that leaves no room for others’ pursuit of happiness and, in the end, suffocates our very own, too. Corporations, man-made creations that are not “people” in any sense of the word, have run amuck the very ideals of democracy, freedom and balanced ecology. When CEOs and their Boards of Directors line their pockets with blood money, that is, profits from oil and fossil fuels, literally Mother Earth’s blood, they do so without conscience or consideration of the global climate effects. There’s a reason why we are in this predicament in the first place. That reason is found in the way we live.

Individually, we can only make so much of an impact in the reversal of the annihilation of our terrestrial abode. Governments have to follow through and fundamentally change how we use energy, what kind of energy we use and in what capacity we can strive for all future energy needs. We simply cannot continue to engorge ourselves and our technologies with energy from fossil fuels. We must harness solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative energy sources. Renewables, recyclables, reusables, reducibles…to harness the power of “again” gives us another chance at creating anew a world in which there is balance among all living things. Human beings must tune themselves back into the harmony that is life on Earth before they unleash self-destructing chaos.

We owe it to my daughter and her generation. To all future generations of humanity.
